St. Michael School is set to embark on its 122nd year of educating students and the beginning of a brand new Pre-K3 building and program! Longstanding traditions of faith, scholarship, leadership, and service are hallmarks of a St. Michael School education, which was founded by the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament in 1900.  Under the leadership and guidance of newly named principal, Mrs. Terri Hebert, St. Michael School is looking forward to the upcoming school year.  “My goal is to begin the year with a fresh start and to embrace it with a positive attitude and God’s grace,” said Mrs. Hebert in her initial letter to the students and families.  She further stated, “I would like us to begin the 2021-2022 school year with an optimistic attitude and a faith that God will always be our light.  God allows challenges and difficulties in order to help us grow in our faith and love for Him and others.  Therefore, let us learn from these challenges, leave the difficulties behind, and move forward with a calm and positive outlook of what is to come.”  Mrs. Hebert’s message resonates with the theme that the school has chosen for the new year:  Rooted in FAITH, united in LOVE, strengthened in CHRIST - we are ONE.

As a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and accredited by Cognia since 2006, St. Michael School has been commended for its outstanding Catholic identity, academic curriculum, and parent, alumni and community involvement.  The school joins with sister Catholic Schools across the nation to celebrate our universal mission of teaching students to become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples, and enriched citizens in their communities.

St. Michael is thrilled to introduce its long awaited Pre-K3 program this school year. Our brand new building is complete, and the program will be integrated into the existing Pre-K4 through 8th grade curriculum.  God’s world opens up for children of this age as they are filled with wonder and curiosity, and the program will grow their knowledge of God’s love and concern for them and others.  The Pre-K3 environment will be warm and inviting with dedicated, experienced teachers whose main goal is to make learning fun and exciting through play.  Not only will the students begin to build foundational skills that will pave the way for academic success, but they will also learn social and emotional skills that will contribute to their overall success in life.  A child’s first experience with school sets the stage for a lifetime of learning.  Pre-K3 teachers, Mrs. Ellen Fussell and Mrs. Amy LeBlanc, look forward to a most exciting and fun year as they introduce the children to the joy of learning.

St. Michael School is blessed to have an experienced and dedicated faculty and staff.  All of the teachers are certified professionals, many holding advanced degrees and beyond with multiple certifications.  Faculty and staff remain committed to ongoing professional development which brings forth an awareness of and dedication to self-improvement across all areas.  It is interesting to note that over one third of the St. Michael faculty and staff are graduates of St. Michael School - a true testament to the school’s loyal and faith-filled commitment to its mission.

Unable to use the new, state of the art STEM/MakerSpace classroom last school year due to COVID19 restrictions, the students anxiously await the inaugural launching of the program this year.  The room is designed to offer students learning areas which foster a positive culture that allows students to problem-solve, collaborate, create, test ideas, and build with their hands.  The curriculum has expanded this year to include “virtual reality” headsets through a program called CLASSVR.  With this program, the potential for bringing the curriculum to life using virtual and augmented reality experiences are endless - from visiting far-flung corners of the world to holding the human heart in your hands without ever leaving the classroom! St. Michael School further offers 1:1 Chromebooks in K-8 across the curriculum.  Pre-K is exposed to technology by the use of iPads in the classroom to enhance lessons and activities.  As a technology-forward school, every classroom at St. Michael is equipped with a new Promethean Active Panel Board which enables new programs such as iRead and IXL to be implemented which further enhance the student’s ability for gaining subject knowledge and comprehension. St. Michael continues to offer the After the Bell Extended Day Program until 6 pm as well as art, music, computer, physical education classes and a plethora of extracurricular clubs and sports which help to ensure a well-rounded and balanced educational opportunity for students.
